Principal Storage Engineer
About the Job

The Principal Storage Engineer will serve as the subject matter expert for all storage technologies across the Phoenix NAP product portfolio. The proper candidate should have extensive storage related experience to include operations, system management, and solution design. As the Principal Storage Engineer you would work closely with operational teams and architecture to ensure that the infrastructure needs of all cloud oriented business units are met. The ideal candidate will have a knack for quickly adopting new technologies, have exceptional troubleshooting skills, and be able to mentor other engineers. Success in this position will be measured by the individual’s ability to champion continuous improvement, take ownership over the storage practice, and improve environmental SLAs.

 


Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the overall health and survivability of all storage environments
  • Must provide exceptional service to all internal and external customers
  • Responsible for 4th level engineering support
  • Acts as “gatekeeper” for changes to cloud based infrastructures
  • Recognize risks and develop mitigations
  • Resolve issues before service delivery is disrupted
  • Implement improvements and changes to existing environments
  • Accountable for implementing and maintaining compliance controls
  • Must enjoy training and mentoring junior staff members
  • This position will have some on-call responsibilities
  • Maintain a professional appearance and attitude
  • Other duties as assigned

 


Qualifications:

 

Required Skills:

  • 10+ years’ in hands-on technical roles with progressive responsibilities
  • 8+ years’ in-depth experience designing and implementing storage environments
  • Hands-on experience with NetApp, Nimble, and ZFS based platforms.
  • Must thoroughly understand underlying storage concepts and technologies
  • Understanding of domain services, networking protocols, virtualization and disaster recovery techniques
  • Must be highly analytical and detailed in planning, execution, an documentation of work
  • The ability to handle stressful situations, tight deadlines, and demanding customers

 

Desired Skills:

  • Industry certifications from RedHat, Nimble, VMware and/or Cisco.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to be self-motivated and exhibit a high degree of professionalism
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of employees/management
  • Demonstrated ability to handle high levels of stress
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems
